I’m heading to Georgia next month for a solo photo trip focusing on medieval watchtowers around Mestia and Usghuli. I’m carrying heavy camera bags and tripods, so using public marshrutka buses with strict timetables sounds like a nightmare for catching sunrise light. Since I've never driven in the Caucasus, I have zero clue how local vehicle rentals work for foreigners. Is it hard to secure a rugged 4WD on short notice? Any practical tips on how to arrange a proper ride smoothly?
