Deck belt is 1 inch shorter

My mower uses a non-standard size deck belt that is hard to find.

Is it a problem if I get a belt that is 1 inch shorter or longer?

Installing a belt with a different length is a bad idea because even a small difference can affect tension and clutch operation. The tensioner may not be able to keep the belt tight enough which can cause slipping under load, overheating and a drop in blade speed. It's better to find the correct option by checking parts catalogs instead of guessing. You can also check https://udcparts.com/collections/mower-belt for quality belts matched to specific equipment.
